Theme: Carnival of Animals
Media: watercolour & mixed media
Size: Approx 6.5 x 9 inches

The 'Carnival of Animals' theme was loosely inspired by a suite of music by Saint Saëns, and a 'sister' theme to the 'Danse Macabre', another series of masked-ball characters (and also taken from the name of Saint Saëns music)  though somewhat more grisly.

To some, the peacock symbolises watchfulness, rebirth and resurrection. To others it is merely vanity or a harbinger of deep misfortune. In classical mythology it was the symbol of Hera, the Queen of the Olympian gods who was both generous and vengeful.
At this masquerade, it is the woman that wears the peacock's feathers, for better or worse.
